My Story

I am delighted to say hello to you through this letter. I hope you are doing well wherever you are. My name is Lucia Rosaura, and I am 16 years old. My family and I attend a Catholic Church in our town. We usually attend mass on Sundays. Let me tell you that my mom, Lucia Luis De La Cruz, is 49 years old. She keeps busy weaving typical blouses to sell. She is also in charge of raising her own pigs and hens. My father, Esteban De La Cruz, is 50 years old. He makes a living as a farmer and day laborer. Besides that, he grows corn and beans for our consumption. Fortunately, my family is in good health. Taking advantage of this, I want you to know that I am grateful to you for loving and supporting me through LW. 

As you know, I broke one of my arms last year, and due to that, I could not attend school. However, I returned to school again as a sixth grader this year. I enjoyed it a lot! By God’s grace, I am in good health. My parents did their best to cover my school supplies, but it was so difficult for them. They have not had a stable job. Some of our needs are groceries and firewood. My dream is to travel to the United States when I am older. I love having tamales to celebrate Christmas and my birthday with my family. My mom prepares the best tamales! I like drinking hot beverages, but my favorite is Incaparina (it is a typical hot drink prepared with mill corn), and my favorite sport is football. My native language is the Kiche dialect, and I know a little Spanish. I hope to improve my Spanish speaking someday. To end this letter, I want you to know that my mom helped me to give all this information to a teacher of LW.
