My Story

Dueñas, where your child lives, is a small farming village located at the foot of one of Guatemala's active volcanoes, Fuego (Fire). The fertile ground around the village allows for the cultivation of roses and coffee, two of Guatemala's largest exports. Most of the families in this area live in one or two room wooden or adobe houses with tin roofs. Electricity is available to those who can afford it. Running water is available - however, most homes do not have indoor plumbing. Public education is available for those who can afford it and consider education of value. Life in Dueñas is quiet and sometimes difficult.

Hello! My name is Haziel Isaac Flores Ordonez. My birthdate is March 8, 2019, which makes me 4 years of age now. I am in pre-kindergarten this year. I love red and blue, and the animals I love are cats and dogs; I have one of each of them as my pet. The meal I love to eat is sausage and chicken medallions. I spend my time playing toy cars, running and football. I live with my parents and one sister. I thank God because my family and I are in good health. My father is Erik Nemias Flores Perez. He makes a living by driving a bus from Antigua to Escuintla town; he supplies the family’s needs. My mother´s name is Hilda Ordonez Ordonez. Most of the time, she does the housework, but she tends a pharmacy and earns Q50.00 = $7.00 per turn.

We attend Foursquare Church in our village. We live in my grandmother´s property, and we do not pay for rent. My grandma and other relatives live there also. There are five rooms, but we use only one and share the kitchen. The walls are made of block, tin sheet roof and a cement floor. We have running water and electricity, and my parents pay for it alongside my grandmother. I walk about 10 minutes to get to the feeding program. As a family, our most basic needs are food, clothing, and footwear. I walk about 10 minutes to get to the feeding program. My mother Hilda Ordonez provided my personal information to the Living Water staff for my registration in the program. So long. May God bless you wherever you go!

Lots of love,

Haziel Isaac Flores Ordonez
