My Story

Chuchuca, where your child lives, is an area located high on the side of a mountain in the state of Quiché, Guatemala. Life in this area is very difficult and very isolated from the outside world. It is more than a two hour walk to the nearest market town of Zacualpa. Chuchuca is a farming area where corn and black beans, the staple elements in their diet, are the major corps. The Quiché Mayans who inhabit this area trace their ancestral roots to the ancient Mayan civilization. They normally speak a Mayan dialect called Quiché - however, Spanish is becoming more common. Very little money ever changes hands in this area as they live on a barter system.

Hello! My name is Jessica Wendy Garcia Garcia. I was born on April 11th, 2012, and I am an 11-year-old healthy girl. This year I attend 5th grade at school. I like to help my mother with some work and then I like to play with my dolls. I love cats and the color I like the most is red. Fried chicken is my favorite meal. I live with my parents, one brother and one sister. Thank God, we are in good health. My father´s name is Domingo Garcia de la Cruz. He supports the family by working in construction as a bricklayer. My mother´s name is Paula Garcia de la Cruz. She is a housewife and raises hens.

We are members of the Assembly of God Church. My father owns the house in which we live; there are two rooms made of adobe walls with a roof made of tin sheets and a floor that is just dirt. The kitchen is separated. There is electricity but no running water, so we get it from a natural spring which is nearby. For now, our greatest needs are groceries and corn. I walk about 15 minutes to get to the feeding program. This time the Living Water staff collected this information personally for the record, and my mother Paula Garcia provided it. sending much love. May God bless you wherever you go!

Hugs and kisses,

Jessica Wendy Garcia Garcia
